RE-Xtreme RC DRB-REW Prototype #001 - Twin Config
Starting to install my test setup. Specifically designed for Twin Servo.
Setting up the front end without the central ackerman control bar or turnbuckle is less restrictive for setup with the M12S or Futaba 4PX in their dedicated twin model modes.
Resistance is also much lower with lower torque required for steering movement.
Steering servo can be mounted further inward by reversing the servo mount. with perfect fitment for low profile servo. But as I will be mounting the ESC between the servos, I am keeping them in the relatively normal locations widely spaced for weight shift.
Determining the exact height of the battery tray and getting the battery plate lined up for flush mounting.
Production model will include some slightly different details.
You will notice the small decoration pieces on top of the stabiliser mount. Similar design for those without this item to add rigidity. I use the one the front without the stabi mount for rigidity.
Ample ground clearance and shock travel with low shock tower for weight shift.
Drift Package Diffuser mount also available fro common RWD ReAR battery setups.
Drift Package TypeC suspension positions and lower holes for 55~60mm shock and upper holes for 60~65mm
Battery mount available through bulkhead for position right above the rear wheels. Strap mounting is simple but effective. Black bands to be sourced.
Due to the reverse location of the motor, I'm running this belt conversion. Sakura Pulley is sightly modified for fitment. MSt 11T is sleeved for accuracy. This will be replaced by a 9T shortly.
Rear pulley is 13-40 using the standard size front belt. I will also be using a custom 9T here with the rer DRB tensioner.
it's all coming together.
Just need to fire up the ESC after changing the wire length... then it's test time.
RE-Xtreme RC DRB-REW Prototype #001
RE-Xtreme RC is proud to display the DRB-REW Prototype #001 in it's raw unfinished form.
The full carbon set is now a hands on experience.
From design to reality is a great experience.
Every measurement of every piece is accurate.
Support for a whole host of different options.
4 different steering positions are just the start. 3 Different servo configurations, Many battery locations.
To start the build I had to choose a colour. Yes... Blue it is.
So the deconstruction of the blue Overdose DRB began and choices for original config were made.
Config No1 is as shown.
DRB V2 Front. Drift Package RWD Long Wiper.
Slim Hyper Drive brace, Team Suzuki Rear end and BD7 Ball Diff
There are a lot of overly complicated designs out there is RWD land. I've gone for simple to start with.
I am still finalising motor belt pulleys to replace the spur and spacers for the battery mount screw lengths and more but I am already super excited where this is going.
NOTE: pulley on top of the OD motor mount will be removed as not required
The front is super optional. The upper deck can support the DP positions shown here with a lateral servo. Just ahead of those are the GRK slide rack positions.
There are 2 positions for the normal DRB wiper set in carbon replacing the alloy mount point.
From the pictures above you will also notice 3 sets of steering wipers that I am evaluating to accompany those options.
But already the DP long wipers seem more than adequate. For someone who has already upgraded to the narrow scrub front end, this is an easy change.
Narrow chassis allows for a LOT of body roll. Rear tower has positions for 5mm longer shock or using a longer ball end to raise the length and regain stroke. All bulkheads have been raised 5mm in these images.
This works with the cutout in the rear shock tower to allow for a flexible battery position.
Large cutout for rear spool also allows for a larger spool pulley to slow the rear wheel speed.
I will be running 9-40 ball diff and testing 9-40~45 rear solid axles in testing.
I will also be running 11-41~45 Motor belt pulleys to cater for the rear motor position.
Shorty pack or course allows for the most variations.
This is my current fave position.
There are soo many places to put the battery I stopped before I took too many photos.
Most will mount the battery here. Only angled because of current temporary pulley. But the rear shock tower cutout allows for a low position.
Simple OEM DRB rubber straps will hold the battery no issues.
As you can see, I've incorporated the optional DP suspension positions and the rear diffuser location.
Twin servo and other positions are all ready.
I am still deciding a lot of what the first setup will be. But the electrics will be installed soon.
M12S , Sanwa Super Votex Plus D and Twin SRG BLX, Etc Etc....
A slow process but the results will not be bad. I can already see the hours of thinking about items paying off.
It literally took 1 hour to convery my other chassis to this position with everything bolting in perfectly.
Stay tuned for final config and first tests.
