RE-QUAD6-7 Update#6 Light

When all those long hours add up... and you get close to the end of a project... It starts to give rewards.

One of the rewards for me is the cool imagery. A bit of theater is necessary and you may notice more than a few links The Netherlands in this build.

www.RC-PIPES.com hooked me up with a few choice items over the past few months.

And this one is another gem. The P!PES V1 light kit has selectable patterns right from your controller. I use the thumb switch on the MT4S.

The ribbon bar makes installation very simple. We all want to change something, so I would like a little more length on the rear ribbon, but that's it.  I use these small clips to hold the ribbon... You can make your own with thin alloy and double-sided tape.

One thing I kept from my 180sx build was this beauty.  Just the right spot for it too. 

I have a diffuser planned for this body, but for now, the dump pipe looks good enough hanging there.

So there it is ... 90% complete. I'll add a few more shots without the lights.

It was a bit too early in the day for outdoor shots of a white car.

And a bit too dark inside... But you get the idea. White with subtle effects.

Gold/Pink side is a bit darker 

The Silver/Green/Purple side is very subtle... but lights up better.

Stance is 0.5mm perfect and the guards can trim themselves. I'm lazy.

I did make a mistake on the front small light holes, But as the front end is not scale anyway, I just rolled with an offset "Nagano" plate to cover the mishap. You may remember Nagano from the winter olympics. So in some ways the snow white is appropriate. 

My custom Black OD DRB has plenty of lock and the scrub radius comes nowhere near the edges of the guards. Zillion knuckles installed.

So there you have it...

I'm gonna run this as is, but there will be a dash and the rear diffuser added.

RE-Quad6-Seven - Update #4 Subtle Detail

After a false start with my Airbrush... Let's Go!

Back to the cans. Inside and out.

un masking reveals the subtle effects.

It won't be until I do the final photo shoot that the full detail will be visible. 

I decided to do a different colour on both sides. 

This is another body where the sun or direct lighting will really change the appearance.

While the body won't glow in the dark as I had planned, it will still play with the light.

Still heaps to do, but at least the paint is out of the way...

RE-Quad6-Seven - Update #2 Cut, Mask and Paint

Underway... but soooo much more to do... I don't want to think about it.

When the Demi Works Rocket Bunny kit for the FD3s came out I was excited. but the more I looked at it I was dissapointed with the semi-scale look.

 The scale details in the Demi Works kit, just aren't there and some of the shapes are just a bit ~~~ wrong.

the line for the lower edge of the bumper is not moulded, nor is the line for the front fender join. The small light dimples don't even show and the shape of the side oil cooler intakes are not like this at all.

And the Rear is nowhere near the width it needs to be. But... close is close so the project starts and I'll do my best.


But my best might not be tto good. When you cut along the lines... well honestly . it's pretty bad.

But eventually, you can resurrect something. The lexan is so soft any slip with the knife and you are in the danger zone.

I thought about making slight cuts to recreate the fender join and the front bumper lip, but I erred on the safety side. I already has a runaway drill on the front light dimples.

So after 3 hours of alignment and getting everything in line... I started the masking.

Another 3 hours later. The masks were applied "to the inside"

The end result will be OK.

Next up... window masks and and light details.

Next day was a paint day. Cold day means painting in front of the heater. Heat up the body, heat up the paint and all is well. 

I also prepped the original front bar... and I pound some 86 V2 Bonnet vents that I will install.

So a quick mock up... Before the second stage of removing the lettering masks. The lettering colour will not be black.

Front lip will change the look a little back to a more normal FD3s look.
