Speedline CR-1 Medium for Cement

CR-1 Speedline are the chosen control tyre for RWD rear tyres at GCRC, Gold Coast RC Raceway.

Set a massive challenge of finding a tyre that has similar speed to Countersteer 4wd cars, doesn't leave itself on the track surface and can still produce grip is difficult.

Testing over 20 different variations, some were super fast, some were super slow, some were great for 2 laps then terribly slippery, some were worn out in a session.

This tyre was a balanced result for our purpose and the specific needs of GCRC. Just like any track targeting realism and promoting close tandem drifting a control tyre is necessary.   

This is the flat camber design... but they still look pretty round to me. Edges are sharp so be careful when mounting.  Mounting is quite tight. you wont need 0-bands or foam inners. On many rim brands, you may need to remove the sharp edge with a knife and maybe trim the rim edge also.

I only need to mount up to the outer lip. Raised lettering means you can break out some paint and decorate.

What about driving... they look really slippery? Well we all know one tyre behaves incredibly differenty to another.  Stay tuned for a video from GCRC on the super polished concrete. They require a bit more "driving", but once you get used to the "feeling". You will enjoy these.

We are already enjoying the matched speed drift trains at GCRC after only a couple of weeks. Chassis are tuning into the feel and running door to door already.

A last minute switch failure saw me swap the Airia from the DP-RWD into he DRB.

DP wipers are awesome items. All you need really.

First lap was good, second was better and only tuning can improve from this point.

I already love the way the chassis works. the ability to place the battery directly over the rear wheels is spot on with a shorty pack.

I tried many locations including a long full size battery all which gave excellent results.

Performance is already more predictable than of my previous DP Weight Shift Setup.

New Speed-Line setups are requiring a bit more camber to get the rear side bite happening.

But the DRB-REW is already spon on. Massive front steering angle is very very beneficial for CR-1 compliance.

With the level already high at GCRC,

We are all pushing ourselves to get consistency and improve more and more.

Speedline Reviews

Oospeed and Speedline were gracious enough to allow us to test some tyres and wheels. 

I already have a few sets of Speedline rims and Tyres, so it was no big deal matching a set for testing.

So far we tried the Rear Wheel Drive CR-1 and CR-2 at GCRC Raceway with 3 independent drivers and chassis.

The CR-1 is the "harder" Medium tyre. It has very very consistent behavior. These will be great to match CS cars. 

It also has a built in rev limiter. If you slowly get on the throttle you get grip and forward motion. Bury the throttle and you don't go anywhere off the line. But once up and running, these tyres are awesome.

The CG-2 is your typical "Medium" Medium-Soft tyre that degrades quickly and although gives a lot of grip also ended up being simply too fast for our use.

Immediate front end understeer with regular front tyres and only short drifts as grip was reached. Definitely one for the faster tracks out there.

We also compared these against Yokomo Zero-One R4 which fell in between the two Speedline compounds
Against the MST CS-R Red benchmarks they performed well with CR-1 having a much longer clean tyre feel as they don't pick up surface dust into the compound.

Se we were very pleased with the outcome. Final decision to come for control tyre selection. 

The Gemini is one body I don't mind running 20mm front tyres. They look better than the fats. 

10 Spoke rims in +8 offset. I'm ready for my next front tyre test. CR-1 Rear tyre and CG-1 20mm RWD on the front and a narrower chassis.

the CG-1 are a hard compound that should match the CR-1 perfectly.
